About The Team
The Engineering Competence Center (CC) is part of the Naval organization within Thales The Netherlands. Engineering is organized as a matrix with 8 product segments and six main disciplines: System Engineering (300 employees), Mechanical & Electrical Engineering (130), Software Engineering (300), Radar Front End Engineering (90), Supportability Engineering (60), and Engineering Delivery Management (100).
Overarching Engineering Operations (a team of about 10 people) ensures that the Segments and Disciplines receive the correct information and KPIs to steer on. Conversely, Engineering Operations also challenges the Segments and Disciplines when KPIs deviate. To lead this team, we are currently looking for a Head of Engineering Operations (HoEO).
About Your Future Job
The Head of Engineering Operations is responsible for maintaining the operational aspects of Engineering by providing and updating dashboards and KPIs. This includes arranging and facilitating reviews and audits (both internal and external). Reporting to various stakeholders is primarily handled by Engineering Operations. The role also involves coordinating the yearly budgeting process and creating the Engineering performance plan. Additionally, Engineering tooling at the highest level is managed by Engineering Operations, which challenges deviations from KPIs and processes to improve Engineering performance.
The HoEO leads a team of about 10 Data Analysts, Process, and Tooling Experts.
The Head Of Engineering Operations
- is a member of the Engineering Management Team
- leads a team of approximately 10 data analysts, tooling, and process experts
- is responsible for keeping engineering dashboards up to date and challenging deviations
- ensures consistency, maturity, and configuration management of the CC cost estimate process and practices (cost estimating models, parametric estimates, etc.)
- provides engineers with an efficient Engineering Environment and related support
Why you’d be a good match
You have proven experience as a Line Manager and/or Program Manager working in a highly technical environment. As a HoEO, you:
- hold a Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering or equivalent
- are motivated with a proven track record in Engineering and Project domains, demonstrating ownership principles
- are target-driven, result-oriented, and capable of coaching Team Managers and Work Package Managers
- are comfortable having confronting discussions when deviations are detected
- set direction, energize your team, and connect with stakeholders
- are proactive, take initiative, manage expectations, and communicate effectively
- are an excellent communicator fluent in Dutch or English, both spoken and written
